Another UUpdate from Lilian on the RoadTime jumps, motel price changes, opposition to the Bunker Buster Bomb test and more....
Tonight we are in Hawthorne, Nevada. We have been watching weather maps of the storm we encountered on Monday. When you are in the middle of one of those storms they don’t show you how really bad it is. But in looking at these maps on television now, we see it was a very big storm. On our trip so far we have filmed over five hours of footage showing the storms, flooding, the mountains as well as some interesting interviews.
We are spending the night at the El Capitan Casino here in Hawthorne. It is a beautiful place and the accommodations are wonderful.
Today we visited the Walker River Indian Reservation. We also met some people of the Gothic persuasion. One of them did a sketch for Tina, my camera person. We found them so interesting that we invited them to our room and filmed an interview with them.
We had a little time jump today. We traveled 130 miles in 42 minutes.
We are having continuing problems with reservations for overnight accommodations. I had made advance reservations to stay in California. I decided to phone them today to make sure they had the reservations. They had them but they had raised the price by $20 a night. I did not find this acceptable so I cancelled the reservations. Something similar happened in Bend, OR. We agreed upon a price with a motel and went to dinner. When we came back we found the price for the room had raised by $20 and we refused it. On both occasions we were able to find acceptable accommodations with Motel 6. So, we will be staying at Motel 6 in Victorville, CA tomorrow night. I am very frustrated with the situation regarding pricing and reservations, but I am very happy that Motel 6 has come to our rescue.
I have not spent much time in Nevada previously and I am enjoying this experience very much. Along the way we are asking people of all ages their opinion on the Bunker Buster Bomb that is supposed to be detonated here in Nevada. Every single person we have spoken to is strongly opposed to this taking place.
Tomorrow we will cut over to Bishop, CA, which is about 130 miles. Then we will go on to Victorville, which is about 215 miles. So we will send our next message from Victorville.
Love & Light from Lilian
