UN Exposes US Abuse of ImmigrantsOver 230,000 people rot in US prisons for simply being immigrants without the required papers or because the govt. doesn't like them. The United Nations considers this a gross violation of human rights.
UN investigator Jorge Bustamante has issued a report showing that US immigration prisons are overused and suffer from poor living conditions and substandard means of appeal.
The immigrant prison population has tripled over the past nine years to 230,000 and includes children and entire families.
Thousands of cuban immigrants have been rotting in prison since the Mariel Boat Lift in 1980 and will likely spend the rest of their lives in prison without ever being accused of any crime or falsely convicted on bogus charges.
Bustamante says the US should focus on alternative measures to mandatory incarceration and improve detainees’ legal rights and living conditions.
