The CIA doesn’t like any competition to its lucrative drug business and aggressively attacks potential drug smugglers who are not part of its team.
In Peru and Colombia, the CIA works closely with the corrupt military to identify and target competitors while ensuring the protection of approved shipments.
On On 20 April 2001, a small floatplane owned by the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism was transporting an American family of four from Brazil to their home base of operations in Iquitos, Peru. The CIA tracked the plane and without bothering to identify it ordered it shot down. The Peruvian military, infamous for its brutality and sadism, was more than eager to comply.
Missionary Veronica Bowers and her 7-month daughter were killed and Bowers’ husband, young son and the pilot suffered serious injuries.
Within hours, CIA officers began to paint the attack as a one-time mistake in an otherwise well-run program. This was a blatant lie and an internal CIA investigation has finally exposed it as such.
The investigation found that in most cases “aircraft were shot down without being properly identified, without being given the required warnings to land, and without being given time to respond to such warnings.”
Further, after the planes were shot down most were never even examined to see if narcotics were actually onboard the aircraft or not. Had the planes actually been carrying drugs the cargo would likely find its way to a ship or another plane and would eventually reach the US. The fact that no efforts were made to search the downed planes shows that the attacks were not really intended to keep drugs out of the US, but to punish potential competiting drug smugglers, and simply engage in mindless terrorism – something the Peruvian military and CIA are well known for.
In the aftermath of the missionary murders, the CIA conducted several internal investigations, withheld the findings from Congress, the National Security Council and the Department of Justice and lied about the events.
To date, no one has been charged in any of the killings and it is business as usual for the CIA.
The illegal and immoral program of simply shooting down any plane suspected of carrying drugs was started by Clinton in 1994, himself deeply involved in the CIA’s drug trade. The program was started to reduce the amount of competing drugs from reaching the market and to keep prices high.
This case should raise the question of why the US continues to be allowed to murder anyone it doesn’t like for whatever excuse it wants to give. It is obvious that the US federal govt. is completely corrupt but is the UN and World Court also entirely corrupt?
The ‘war-on-drugs’ kills far more people than illegal drugs do. Prescription drugs kill far more people than illegal drugs do.
The threat from addictive drugs is virtually non-existent compared to the threat from the US govt. It is time that Americans recognize who the real enemy is and live up to their responsibilities as citizens. Not copyrighted
